What is the format of the competition? Most jigsaw competitions are timed events where teams or individuals race to finish the same puzzle.
How many people can be on a team? Typically, teams consist of 1 to 4 people. Please check your specific registration tier, as we offer categories for solos, pairs, and groups.
How long does the event last? The competition window is usually 2 to 3 hours. If no one finishes the puzzle by the end of the timer, the winner is determined by the fewest number of remaining loose pieces.
Can we use reference images? Most competitions allow you to use the box lid as a reference. However, some "blind" or "pro" rounds may prohibit looking at the picture. Check the specific rules for your heat!
Are any outside items to help with puzzling al allowed? The following items are allowed as long as they do not overflow into the neighboring team's workspace.
Sorting trays
Head lamps or Battery-operated lamps
Prohibited: Spatulas or "puzzle scoops" for moving large sections are generally not allowed unless specified.
What happens if a piece is missing? If you suspect a piece is missing from the factory, you have 10 seconds to look for the missing piece then your time is entered. (Basically a 10 second penalty for each piece not found.)
How is the winner determined?
First to Finish: The first person/team to snap the final piece into place and raise their hand.
Piece Count: If the timer expires, judges count the number of unconnected pieces. The lowest count wins.
What are the prizes? Prizes usually include trophies, gift cards to puzzle retailers, and, of course, the bragging rights of being the fastest solver in the room! Plus, in many events, you get to keep the competition puzzle.
Is there an age limit? We typically have divisions for "Juniors" (under 12) and "Adults." Children are welcome in the adult division if they are accompanied by a guardian, but the puzzles are usually 500+ pieces.
What should I bring? Just your brain and your hands! We provide the puzzle. You may want to bring a water bottle (with a secure lid) and a sweater, as competition halls can get chilly.
Pro Tip: Arrive 15 minutes early to get settled at your table. Once the plastic wrap comes off the box, the clock starts, and there’s no time for a coffee break!
